A famous quote by Socrates, “Beware the barrenness of a busy life” threw me into a trance today.
We are all running after success, just like a search for an oasis in a god forsaken desert. The more we move towards it, the farther it seems. Just when we feel that it is at an arm’s length, it decides to run away. We keep following it without a care in the world and in this attempt drain our existing energy. In our everyday life, the oasis is success and the energy we are draining is our relationships.
In the never ending search for success, we have made our lives so busy that we have little time for the people we love. This is the barrenness that Socrates warned us about, I have learnt my lesson, what about you?
I agree. We oftentimes become too busy with the mundanes that we miss those that are truly important. Our lives become barren due to meaningless and tiresome pursuits.

I’d like to think I learned my lesson. Almost two years ago, I stepped out of a management position (voluntarily) because I was killing my self trying to get ahead. I no longer wish to rule the corporate world and I’m happiest for it. Time with family and friends is priceless.

Excellent! Thank you for encouraging me in my quest for being still before the Lord! It’s in those quiet moments He writes messages on the walls of my heart… some to keep and ponder, others to share. Had i been busy all the time, the walls would still be blank.

Professional parents beware. Build up your profession. But not at the cost of your children’s life.
