Take Me Back

Take me back to the time I long haven’t seen
When the sky was pink and the ground so green
When I was still a jumping kid, not yet a teen
When books were easy and my eyes so keen
When the street was a kingdom and I its queen
When the grass was dewy in the morning sheen
When I danced to the cuckoo’s song as hedges preen
When I saw rabbits in flesh not on plasma screen
When the world was all smiles, no time for spleen
Take me back to the time I long haven’t seen

    My favorite line is, “When the street was a kingdom and I its queen.” It reminds me of when kids actually played outside. I didn’t really start using the internet until I was 11 or so, and I didn’t get a cell phone (one of those old flip phones) until I was 16. As much as I love the entertainment and convenience of a smartphone and the ubiquitous internet, I wonder if life was better without it.

      Life had a different meaning back then, we weren’t looking at ourselves from the lens of social media. Things were simpler, we’ve complicated them beyond repair and it is beginning to take a toll on us!

    This is so good; I felt all the emotions! I am one of those people who are conflicted towards my feelings on getting older. I am grateful for what I have become but I get so lonely seeing how the people have gotten old and realizing that I, too, am old… I long for the days that my parents were younger… but that would mean, I don’t get to live the present… sometimes, I wish for at least a glimpse of the past…
