The Unborn

“20 years have passed; our daughter is now a young girl ready to be on her own. She will have to go…”, she cut him midway. “We can’t let her leave, she is the only…” she began but didn’t complete and lost herself to thoughts of the past.

Pregnant with twins she was having major complications in her delivery. “We can’t save all three of them, at the most we can try for two lives”, the doctor gave the verdict. With a heavy heart the tensed father decided to save his wife and one child. After several hours in the OT, the doctors exited with triumph but only the heart of the father knew what a failure it was! A bleeding sack of flesh followed and that was the last he saw of ‘her’.

“I know you are concerned but we are not losing her, let her live her life”, he said to his ‘protective’ wife. “Your father is blind, don’t be sad my princess he loves you” she said as she unlocked her daughter’s cupboard. “He wants her to go but darling I know how much you are attached to your sister. She won’t go, or even if she does you can still hug her every night, after all you don’t need a passport to travel like all of us.”

“I love you my daugh…”, she began but her daughter corrected, “…your unborn daughter”!
