To the girl with blue hair,
I always envied you from across the street, the house right opposite to yours. See, you don’t even remember me. We went to the same high school and you never graced me with a single glance. Why would you? You were the popular girl with blue hair and I was the nerd with giant specs and unruly pigtails. You never bullied me, nobody did because nobody ever noticed me. I don’t know what’s worse.
I envied you till last Saturday when I saw you happy for the last time. I saw your blue hair pop out of the window, it was still Friday and then the clock struck 12 and some hooting followed. It was your birthday I know. I thought it was the beginning of a magical day for you. I don’t know what happened next, I wish I was awake.
I woke up late the next morning to police cars buzzing outside your house. At that moment I knew the worst had happened. But I had no courage to come down to your house and the next day, there was no need anymore. Your face was staring at me from the newspaper and the headline read, “Blue haired teen stabbed her mom, tired of begging for her attention”.
I don’t envy you anymore.
-The girl you don’t know exists
Damn. That is dark.

By the way, there’s a blogger I like who writes poetry along similar themes: DRBogdan… I think you’d like his work.

Sometimes, that piece of our heart we reveal, when we write its name in dark places…
it can show just how deep the lights go –
the lights nobody notices,
hanging as they do on street corners, listening to a party two blocks away, to which this tide wasn’t invited.
But then, one day, when reading you, hearing you, discovering you… they’ll discover a new shore through your lights and your words, shining in colours you can only feel up close, where the heart is.
