The Ebony In Gold

on

One day I’ll adorn their ebony wall shelf
Encased in antique glass
Like a trophy of a long battle
That I won on paper and never in flesh
For I will die fighting
And with me will die many dreams
Of living till the very end
Watching change unfold…

One day I’ll adorn their ebony wall shelf
Encased in antique glass
With a coating of pure gold, hiding my color black
What an irony it will be
When they shed tears for the war of hues
And sing the song of my triumph
As they remember me for my pride in color
While I wince in a shell of gold…
