When Adulthood Calls

To the girl stepping into adulthood,

Your days go by in a blur. The world is a crazy maze and each day you try to find your way out. But you are clueless, more than you’ve ever been. Panic grips you as you realize that life as an adult is not how the teen you had imagined. The friendships you thought would last a lifetime are mere acquaintances today. The guy you held hands with as he promised to be yours forever is now saying the same sweet things to someone else.

The freedom you dreamed of as an adult is tainted with responsibilities. The adulthood you craved for as a child is a baggage heavier than your school bag. The dreams you knitted then to live today have found their peace in a locked drawer. Late night parties are beginning to lose their charm but the booze tempts you into texting your ex. You wake up regretting everything and go to sleep remembering no regret. The cycle continues and so does time.

You want to go back and live it all over. But childhood does not come back and you have to live with this truth.
