I Wish I Could

To the teenage girl at the bus stop,

I saw you today waiting for the bus. I saw a reflection of myself in you. A shiver raced down my spine at that thought. I wish I could say I saw in you a budding writer like me. I wish I could say we share the love of arts. I wish I could say we like the same author. I wish I could say we see the world through a similar lens. I wish I could…

I saw you today waiting for the bus. I saw a reflection of myself in you. I saw how you pulled your skirt lower, hiding your legs from peeping eyes. I saw how you winced at the ‘accidental’ touch of the clumsy man. I saw how you held your books in front of your young bosom, hiding it from that tall fellow’s unending gaze. I saw how you missed the last bus full of eyeing vultures and walked home instead.

I wish I could hold your hand and say you will be okay. I wish I could…

I saw a reflection of myself in you. A shiver raced down my spine at that thought.

This is so heart-wrenching and as women it feels more hurtful because somewhere we all have worn the masquerade of this teenage girl and truly my spine shivered when I read this piece.

    Stay safe and sound!
    Stay happy and healthy!

Keep Writing! It is glad to see you frequently posting on WordPress.
