I Am 24

on

I am 24
It’s been long since I learned to talk
And long enough since I knew when to shut up

It’s been long since I learned to walk
And long enough since I knew when to sit down

It’s been long since I learned to scream
And long enough since I knew when to stay calm

It’s been long since I learned to lie
And long enough since I knew when to be truthful

I am 24
I am still a young child for my parents
But I am old enough to raise my own kids

I am still young to know who the wrong guy is
But I am old enough to marry the right partner

I am still young to decide for myself
But I am old enough to govern my kids

I am still young to live all alone
But I am old enough to move in with an “unknown” husband

Why this contrast? Why this hypocrisy?
I am 24 but am I too young or too old?
