Just like any other girl, she grows and develops
From a baby to an adult, she turns with gallops
Moving from crawling to falling and then to running
She has a spark like every girl within that keeps burning
That’s not all about her. She grows with certain morals.
“You must be fully covered before you leave the house”
“Talk to no boy, we will get a stranger as your spouse”
“Your curfew is 6; good girls don’t stay out till late”
“Learn to do all the household chores, that’s your fate”
What if she is teased, or worse: is raped?
“You have brought shame to our family; it’s your fault”
“Your revealing outfit is the reason for this assault!”
“You are impure now; marry the rapist for nobody else will”
“Shameless girl, you should go die or for our honor we shall kill”
What if she has an abusive husband?
“He has a right on your body and you can’t say no to him”
“His wish is your command; let him use you as per his whim”
“So what if he slapped you, that’s how men release stress”
“Agree with him, nobody wants your opinion so just suppress”
That’s the life of an ordinary Indian girl.
Beautiful piece. Adding this one to my favorites. Great job Yamini!!

Dear friend
We should all have respect to each other and also accept the wishes and feelings of girls in India. Of course there is a long-lasting tradition but are all traditions always right? or do they come into being because of the power of man – that man wanted it like that? Both genders, male and female should have the same rights, no side is better or worse – but in finding them going together in love and harmony, in full respect to each other belongs to the true life.
Thanks, dear friend
All good wishes
Didi

Heart wrenching reality , expressed very clean. It is time for that Indian girl to rebel against the so called tradition and so called custom, she dresses the way she wants and punches the person who abuses her, she has no curfew and her world never revolves around any man again. It is time for that Indian girl to get strong and brace . The change we bring in is the stepping stone! You have written an amazing article. Do you mind if I reblog this?

I read this beautiful piece today and what ever is written in this is a heart wrenching reality to this day in most of the places this exact same thing happens! I hope all us do our part in changing this situation, girls by getting stronger and being brave. Boys by understanding the girl is just like you and no different from you 😊

It is true of every region in India – but in varying degrees. Kerala has more freedom (not full), followed by perhaps some north-eastern states. Education is gradually liberating the women.

It’s thousands of years of muck in our brains and I honestly don’t think the scenario is going to change anytime soon. Now with the growing nationalism, feminism will again be taking a back seat and we’ll all go about our lives pretending to ourselves that this is what the girls in India are happy with…
And the absolutely worst fucking thing is that the wide majority ARE actually okay with this shit because they have no idea that an alternative lifestyle even exists…Weird place, this one.

This is sad but true. If something is not done to change this thought, we will have to take a big step to show our importance & our power. We should show everyone what we’re capable of doing & we should make sure no more girls are tied to these stereotypical thought.
