Two Travelers

A boy, a girl
Classmates and may be more.
College canteen, class bunk
Coffee and feelings both pour.

Two broken hearts, two stories
Together, one friendship
Fake laughter, forged smile
Both drowning in the same ship

Gripped by sadness
Yet, fighting it brave.
Pulling the smiling front
Guarding the inner grave.

One sad, the other mad
Have a row, so scary.
Take a vow, she commanded,
“Not allowed a life so dreary”

They make a pact to move on
For one’s happiness? Or the other’s?
True friendship, they say
Lovers, they mean, or lifetime brothers?

One path, two travelers
Destination, same, sunshine
Will they make it? Together?
Will he say, “Be mine?”
